About globnut.net The globnut.net has been initiated by the Global NutrITion Programme as a platform for communication in Information Technology and Nutrition. The Global NutrITion programme is organised by the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences in collaboration with Uppsala University and Karolinska Institute and aims to support networking among nutrition professionals involved in training in Africa, Asia and Latin America. The programme receives funding from the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida). Since 1999, over 100 academic trainers in 40 countries in Africa and Asia have participated in the network Within the programme groups learn how to prepare CD or web based learning material for universities and pedagogic aspects of making interactive training material. Among the outcomes of the programme are 2 interactive CDs, Nutrition in Africa I+II, a regional Asian web platform for distance learning modules (www.asianut.net), a software for course management and web compatible distance learning modules and several published articles. Furthermore, the participants from 2000 took the initiative to host the first PAN African conference on the theme of Information Technology in the advancement of nutrition in Africa (ITANA). The ITANA group have now formed an e-society with the aim of continuing to improve nutrition in the region through the use of IT (www.itana2002.org). Available CDs Two CDs with learning material for undergraduate students in nutrition have been produced by the African participants in the programme. Nutrition in Africa I consists of the following modules: An overview of nutrition situation in Africa, Health and Nutrition, Nutrition throughout the lifecycle, Agriculture, food and nutrition security, Nutrition assessment and Nutrition information, education and communication. Nutrition in Africa II has the following modules: Introduction to human nutrition, Food security, Food safety, Micronutrients, Nutrition and HIV/AIDS, Nutrition and information technology (IT). The website The website has been designed with low-bandwidth visitors in mind, keeping most pages below 3 kb in size.
